Boda boda rider, teenage passenger killed in separate road crashes

Two people have been killed in separate road traffic crashes in Apac and Oyam districts, with police launching investigations into both incidents.In Apac District, a boda boda rider was killed after a motorcycle collided with a police patrol vehicle on Monday evening.

According to North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema, the crash occurred at about 8:15 p.m. on 6th July 2026 at Centre C, about one kilometre from Apac Central Police Station.

Okema said preliminary police investigations indicate that the patrol vehicle, registration number UP 00150, was returning from Akokoro Sub-county after deploying officers on official duty when it collided with a blue Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDY 956S.

Police say the rider, whose identity had not yet been established, struck the left rear tyre of the patrol vehicle while joining the main road.The rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Apac General Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination and identification by relatives.

Okema said some members of the public became agitated after the crash and pelted stones at police officers, but the situation was quickly brought under control without any further incidents.Both the patrol vehicle and the motorcycle were towed to Apac Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles as investigations continue.

He added that a team led by the North Kyoga Regional Police Commander, the Regional Traffic Officer, the Regional Public Relations Officer and the Officer in Charge of the Professional Standards Unit visited the scene to supervise the investigations.

Meanwhile, in Oyam District, a 19-year-old woman was killed in a separate crash involving a motorcycle and a fuel tanker along the Lira–Kamdini Highway.

The deceased, identified as Adong Priscilla, died instantly after the motorcycle she was travelling on, registration number UFT 793B, collided with a Mercedes-Benz fuel tanker, registration numbers KBK 019Z and ZD 2038, at Acero Village in Loro Town Council at about 1:40 p.m. on the same day.

Police say both vehicles were travelling from Lira towards Kamdini when the tanker attempted to overtake the motorcycle, which was riding on the extreme left side of the road. During the manoeuvre, the tanker reportedly struck the motorcycle, causing both the rider and passenger to fall.According to police, Adong’s clothing became entangled in the tanker, dragging her underneath the vehicle before it ran over her legs, killing her instantly.

Okema says her body was taken to Anyeke Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the damaged motorcycle and fuel tanker were impounded at Loro Police Station pending inspection.The tanker driver, Ubao Rama Said, a 48-year-old Kenyan national, has been detained to assist with investigations.

The injured motorcycle rider was rushed by well-wishers to a medical facility.Police say investigations into both crashes are ongoing and have urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and exercise greater caution to prevent further loss of life.
