Police in Amolatar District have recovered two suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested one suspect during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing rising cases of motorcycle theft in the district.

The operation, conducted between Friday night and Saturday morning under the command of the Amolatar District Police Commander, SP John Mafabi, targeted motorcycle theft hotspots within Amolatar Town Council and surrounding areas.

According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, officers recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFM 255Z, and another red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle without a registration number after its number plate was allegedly removed.

SP Okema said police also arrested Mr Edii Ambrose, a resident of Odyak Village in Muntu Sub-county, who is currently in custody to assist with investigations.

He said efforts are underway to establish the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and to identify other suspects linked to motorcycle theft in the district.

SP Okema expressed concern over the increasing number of motorcycle theft cases and directed community policing officers to intensify public awareness campaigns on crime prevention and motorcycle security.

He urged members of the public to use strong locking devices, such as U-locks, to secure their motorcycles, and also called on churches, entertainment centres and other public places to strengthen security measures to protect visitors’ property.

SP Okema said intelligence-led operations against motorcycle thieves will continue across the district as investigations into the case progress.
