Police in Amolatar District have recovered two suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested one suspect during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing the rising cases of motorcycle theft in the district.
The operation, conducted between Friday night and Saturday morning under the command of Amolatar District Police Commander, SP John Mafabi, targeted motorcycle theft hotspots within Amolatar Town Council and surrounding areas.
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, officers recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UFM 255Z and another red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle without a registration number after its number plate had allegedly been removed.
Okema said police also arrested Edii Ambrose, a resident of Odyak Village in Muntu Sub-county, who is currently being held in custody to assist with investigations.

He said efforts are underway to establish the rightful owners of the recovered motorcycles and identify other suspects linked to motorcycle theft in the district.
Okema expressed concern over the increasing number of motorcycle theft cases and have directed community policing officers to intensify public awareness campaigns on crime prevention and motorcycle security.
He urged locals to use strong locking devices, such as U-locks, to secure their motorcycles and also called on churches, entertainment centres, and other public places to strengthen security measures to protect the property of visitors.
SP Okema says intelligence-led operations against motorcycle thieves will continue across the district as investigations into the case progress.
