Balalo eviction: over 400 cattle impounded in Otuke district

Over 400 cattle belonging to Balalo have been impounded in Otuke district, the Assistant RDC of Otuke, Isaac Opio Opeo has confirmed.

According to Opeo, the operation which started on Tuesday saw 433 cattle impounded by UPDF in Ogwete, Ogor and Olilim subcounties. The animals were taken to a kraal in Alir barracks for safe custody.

He said the Balalo have been picking their cattle from the barracks using Karuma route to ferry them off Otuke.

Opeo said in the past the Balalo would hide and go back to Otuke after evictions if they use Abim road.

However, he said the Balalo who followed guidelines of keeping their cattle like; having a kraal, fencing and having water in the grazing land have been left to stay.

He also expressed dismay that some locals are conniving with the Balalo to hide their cattle and warned that victims will be arrested for sarbotaging the presidential directive.

In 2025, president Museveni issued the presidential executive order no 2 of evicting Balalo in Northern Uganda.
