Man arrested for allegedly killing grandmother in Kwania

Police in Kwania District have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his 89-year-old grandmother in Atongtidi Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Bitaroci Atim, a resident of Wigweng A Village in Goi Parish.Henry George Opio, the Parish Internal Security Officer, says he received information about the incident at around 11 a.m. on 19/08/2026.

Opio says preliminary information indicates that an unidentified person allegedly went to Atim’s home, brought her outside and killed her before dragging her body back into the house.

John Bosco Egwel, the LC1 Chairperson of Wigweng A Village, says police were contacted to investigate the incident and brought in a sniffer dog from Apac District.

Egw​​el says the police dog led investigators to the house of Atim’s grandchild, identified as Innocent Anok, resulting in his arrest.

Atim’s body has been taken to Aduku Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
