A Primary Seven candidate in Dokolo District is struggling to sit for his Primary Leaving Examinations after losing his sight just three weeks before the national examinations.
The boy, a pupil of Dokolo Central Primary School in Dokolo Town Council, reportedly developed eye complications despite having been in good health before the incident.
Dokolo District School Inspector, Tonny Lameck Erecu, says he received information about the boy’s condition last Friday and was informed that the pupil had failed to regain his sight despite receiving medical attention.
Erecu, who expressed sympathy over the boy’s situation, says little could be done to facilitate his examination as a special needs candidate because he had already been registered as a normal candidate, making it too late to change his examination arrangements.
Erecu says information from scouts and invigilators indicates that the boy reported to the examination centre this morning but was experiencing difficulties reading and writing the examination papers.
Meanwhile, Erecu says the examinations started smoothly across the different examination centres in the district, expressing optimism that they would conclude tomorrow without any major incidents.
Dokolo District registered 3,582 candidates for this year’s Primary Leaving Examinations, comprising 1,820 boys and 1,762 girls.
