Rotary boosts maternal and newborn healthcare in Amolatar

Rotary Clubs in Uganda, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Amolatar District leadership, have handed over life-saving maternal and newborn healthcare equipment to Amolatar Health Centre IV to improve healthcare services for mothers and babies.

The equipment was commissioned on Friday under the Empowering Families, Growing Futures programme, a Rotary Foundation Global Grant aimed at strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services in beneficiary districts across Uganda.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, NICOSAM biomedical engineer Moureen Kisakye said the equipment package includes baby cots, kangaroo mother care chairs, radiant warmers, pulse oximeters, Warm Embrace infant warmers, newborn resuscitation kits, digital thermometers, Bubble CPAP machines and phototherapy machines.

Amolatar District Vice Chairperson Margret Olul welcomed the donation and urged health workers to ensure the equipment is properly managed and maintained for the benefit of mothers and newborns.

The head of the Rotary delegation, Edward Nkanji, emphasized the need for proper installation, routine maintenance and immediate use of the equipment to prevent damage from prolonged storage. He also encouraged district leaders to establish a Rotary Club in Amolatar to attract more community development support.

Kioga County Member of Parliament Hon. Collins Angwec described the donation as an investment in the people of Amolatar rather than just a gift. She pledged to continue lobbying government, development partners and other well-wishers for additional support to improve health services and the wellbeing of the community.

NICOSAM Healthcare, the programme’s equipment partner, will oversee the installation, commissioning, user training and maintenance of the equipment to ensure health workers can use it safely and effectively.

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, Rotary and the district leadership reaffirmed their commitment to improving maternal and newborn healthcare, saying the initiative will help ensure more mothers and babies receive safe, quality care.
