Residents of Kirombe North A Cell, Akwoyo Ward in Lira City West Division are living in fear following an invasion by a swarm of bees that have settled in the area for the past week.

Sharon Apio, a local resident, confirmed that the bees have been in the neighbourhood for the last seven days, stinging people and causing widespread fear among the community.

Apio, who was stung by the bees yesterday, said that the owner of the house suspected to be the source of the swarm has denied responsibility, leaving residents uncertain about what action to take next.

Emmanuel Okello, another victim, said most people have been forced to stay indoors for fear of being stung by the bees. He expressed concern that the situation may worsen if no intervention is made to address the problem.

Meanwhile, when contacted by our reporter, Peter Obol, the LC1 Chairperson of the area, said he had received information that the bees came from elsewhere and settled in the home of one of his constituents.

He added that he is currently working with others to spray the bees in an effort to drive them away, allowing residents to live peacefully.

James Okola, the Lira District Entomologist, advised affected residents to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility and warned against giving children tea outside the house, as it can attract the bees.

Okola also urged the LC1 Chairperson to involve experts to safely spray and remove the bees, warning that the situation could worsen if not properly managed.
