Over 400 pupils of Ogogong Primary School in Aloi Sub county, Alebtong District, have dropped out of school due to the impact of flash floods.
Amos Otode, the headteacher, said that out of the 1,200 pupils who registered at the beginning of the term, only 712 completed it because flash floods cut off some of the roads connecting learners to the school.
Otode said this forced some pupils to drop out, adding that others transferred to different schools, particularly those from the neighbouring Sub county of Abia.
He said most of the staff houses at the school have been submerged, and teachers are now taking shelter in classrooms.

Geoffrey Onyanga, the Chairperson of the Primary Teachers Association (PTA) at the school, said flash floods have severely affected the well-being of both learners and teachers.
Onyanga said they held an emergency PTA meeting on 1 December 2025 and resolved that parents contribute 20 bricks per child to help repair the staff houses, while also appealing for support from leaders and well-wishers.
Meanwhile, the LC1 Chairperson of the area, Joel Ayang Dibala, said flash floods have also destroyed crops, houses, and latrines belonging to over 30 households, leaving them vulnerable.

David Kennedy Odongo, the LCV Chairperson of Alebtong District, said the floods have affected local residents and some schools in sub counties neighbouring the River Moroto, including Adwir, Abia, Omoro, Aloi, and Adwir.
He expressed dismay that the Disaster Management Committee office is based in Kampala, making it difficult to access in emergencies and complicating efforts to provide timely assistance.
