Kagadi Boda Boda Rider Ends Life over Stolen Motorcycle and Financial Stress

A boda boda rider in Kagadi town sadly ended his life today afternoon (Saturday) by hanging himself using shoe-threads due to overwhelming stress caused by the theft of his motorcycle.
The deceased, identified as 24-year-old Bonefence Kahwa from Kiraba Upper Cell in Kagadi town, Kagadi district, was known as a boda boda rider operating at Mahindura stage in Kagadi Town.
According to the deceased’s mother, Mary Mbabazi, the heartbreaking incident occurred at around 11 a.m. when Kahwa locked himself in his bedroom and took his own life.
Mary Mbabazi revealed that her son had expressed thoughts of suicide prior to the tragic event, deeply distressed by the theft of his motorcycle.
Speaking to our reporter, locals who wished to remain anonymous shared that the theft of Kahwa’s motorcycle, coupled with the pressure from bailiffs of Boda Boda Banja demanding repayment of a loan totaling 5 million Ugandan Shillings, weighed heavily on his mind.
Israel Irumba, the Chairperson of Lc1 Kiraba Upper, urged the youth to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption, which he identified as a contributing factor to such desperate actions.
