Tension in Kagadi as father and son face coffee theft charges

Kayanja angry residents.

Drama unfolded in Kayanja Village, Mairirwe Sub-county, Kagadi District, as residents voiced their outrage after a father and his biological son were accused of stealing coffee.

The incident occurred on 12th January 2025 in the same area.

Village chairperson Opio Asiimwe confirmed that the suspects are 50-year-old Sasire Sulaiti and his 25-year-old son, Tibanyendera Businge Sadick.

Reports indicate that Sasire had loaned his coffee garden to a neighbour, Omuhereza Obanawe. However, he allegedly instructed his son to harvest immature coffee from the garden, and yesterday morning, Tibanyendera was caught in the act.

Tibanyendera has denied the accusations, claiming his father had ordered him to harvest the coffee.

Locals have voiced suspicions that Sasire and his son have been involved in illegal coffee dealings for some time. They claim the accused have further exacerbated tensions within the community.

By the time of going to press, Sasire Sulaiti had reportedly gone to the police in an attempt to clear his name, alleging that his son had misled the public with claims that the two were involved in stealing coffee.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Kagadi Police at the time of writing this story were unsuccessful.
