A soccer-specific stadium is a sports venue that is either purpose-built or extensively redesigned specifically for football, with its primary purpose being to host football matches.
The leadership of Hoima City has confirmed that the construction of Hoima Stadium, being undertaken by Suuma Construction Company, has reached 20% completion. Moses Muyambi, the Hoima City East Resident City Commissioner, assured the public and the company that security measures are in place to ensure the project’s smooth progress.
Despite being under construction, the city is already reaping tangible benefits, including job creation and increased business for local enterprises.
The Hoima Stadium project will feature a 20,000-seater stadium, a 2,000-capacity indoor arena, a training facility, a swimming pool, and outdoor courts for volleyball, netball, and other sports.
On 14 January 2025, the city leadership assured the nation that the project is likely to be completed well ahead of its planned 18-month timeframe.
Valued at USD 129 million, the stadium will include state-of-the-art facilities such as a 2,000-capacity indoor arena, training grounds, a swimming pool, and courts for netball and volleyball, among other amenities.
In July 2024, the government signed an agreement with Suuma Construction Company, a Turkish firm, to build the stadium on 34.9 acres of land in Hoima City. Following the groundbreaking ceremony in September 2024, significant progress has been made. The Hoima City leadership has confirmed that construction is now 20% complete, suggesting the facility could be finished ahead of the agreed timeframe, according to Suuma Construction Company.
Brian Kaboyo, the Mayor of Hoima City, stated that the construction of Hoima Stadium is progressing rapidly.
Kaboyo also noted that initial challenges with workers have been resolved, ensuring steady progress on the project. He encouraged the local community to embrace the stadium, emphasising the numerous benefits it will bring to the region.
