Expired food poses a health risk as it can contain harmful bacteria, mold, or other toxins. Consuming such food can lead to foodborne illnesses.
The Health Inspector of Kagadi town council, Kagadi district, Peter Situma, has issued a public warning urging consumers to check the expiry dates on all purchased items to avoid the risk of food poisoning.
Situma, who also serves as the District Allied Health Supervisor, made these remarks this morning, January 15, 2025, while speaking to a reporter at the Kagadi town council offices.
He expressed concern over the increasing sale of expired goods, particularly drinks and other essential items, by some local business owners and shopkeepers.
Situma emphasised that expired products pose significant health risks, potentially leading to non-communicable diseases such as cancer and other serious conditions.
In response to this growing problem, he revealed that the Kagadi town council’s health department is collaborating with security officials to conduct operations targeting businesses selling expired goods.
