The provision of rural water supply and sanitation covers communities or villages with dispersed populations in settlements of up to 1,500 people, as well as Rural Growth Centres (RGCs) with populations ranging from 1,500 to 5,000.

The Ministry of Water and Environment, through its Department of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, has launched a UGX 4.2 billion solar-powered water supply and sanitation project to address severe water shortages in Kabamba and Bugwara trading centres, Kagadi district.

The announcement was made last evening by Engineer Godfrey Byarugaba, Senior Engineer for Rural Water, who represented the Commissioner of Rural Water during an advocacy meeting at the Kagadi District Council Hall in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district.

According to Byarugaba, the project aims to improve water access in the two trading centres, where current supply levels stand at just 32% and 18%, respectively.

He expressed confidence that the one-year initiative will significantly enhance water availability and sanitation in the area.

Byarugaba also urged local communities to cooperate with the contractor, GAT Consults Limited, to ensure smooth implementation.
