In a significant effort to enhance agricultural productivity and promote mechanised farming, the Ugandan government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, has donated 18 new tractors to nine districts in the Bunyoro region.
The handover ceremony took place yesterday evening at the Kakumiro district headquarters in Kakumiro town council, Kakumiro district.
The tractors were officially handed over by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, on behalf of President Yoweri Museveni.
This donation is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote labour-saving technologies and irrigation systems aimed at boosting the agricultural sector.
The tractors were distributed to institutions across the region to ensure proper maintenance and long-term sustainability.
Each district in the Bunyoro sub-region received two brand-new tractors, with the goal of enhancing agricultural operations and supporting community development.
Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, urged the beneficiaries to handle the tractors with care to ensure they serve their intended purpose.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Local Council V (LCV) Chairpersons, Members of Parliament (MPs), and technical staff from the nine districts in the Bunyoro region.
