Both leaders emphasised the importance of direct engagement with local representatives to ensure the programme’s effectiveness and prevent potential mismanagement.
Boda boda riders in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district, have welcomed the proposed loan scheme by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, aimed at easing financial burdens in the sector and protecting riders from exploitative private lenders.
Speaking to our reporter last evening, Amuza Ategeka, the Chairperson of the Kagadi District Boda Boda Riders, and Alinda Hassan, the Chairperson of the Pride Boda Boda Stage in Kagadi town, praised the initiative as a much-needed intervention.
The proposal addresses a long-standing issue where private companies sell motorcycles at excessively high interest rates.
Ategeka highlighted that a motorcycle valued at 5 million shillings is often sold for over 12 million shillings, trapping many riders in financial hardship.
Hassan emphasised the critical role that boda boda riders play in Uganda’s economy.
He called on the government to consult district boda boda leaders to ensure the scheme benefits those who need it most.
