UPDF officer arrested for allegedly stealing cattle in Kagadi

A one top UPDF officer at a rank of Major and two others have yesterday (Friday) survived lynching by an angry mob in Bwikara Sub County on allegations of cattle theft.

The incident transpired in Kisura trading center Bwikara Sub County Kagadi District in the wee hours of yesterday morning.

According to an eyewitness who preferred anonymity told our reporter that one person carried with a gun was driving a vehicle registration number UAE 722 /C whereas the other two men on foot were chasing two cows coming from Kyaterekera side and were intercepted in Kisura trading center amidst alarm which attracted residents in thousands to come witness the purported thieves.

Upon interception, the Kisura village Lc1 chairperson was informed and rushed to the scene from where he immediately started interrogating the suspects and it was realized that one of them carried with a gun was a UPDF officer at a rank of Major, something that created fear amongst locals.

This prompted them to alert the police of Bwikara Trading center and on arrival they fired live ammunition in air to subdue the suspect carrying the gun.

The incident has been confirmed by the RDC for Kagadi district Lillian Ruteraho who identified one of the suspects as Major Andrew a UPDF officer whereas the two others their names remained scanty.

RDC Ruteraho said that upon interrogation the army officer told them that he was coming from his farm in Ndaiga Sub County, Kagadi district from where he picked the cows.

RDC says the suspects were in the wee hours of yesterday morning brought to Kagadi central police station where they are currently detained.

Commissioner Ruteraho thanked residents of Kisura and greater Bwikara Sub County for not taking the law in their hands to lynch the suspects.

He has however cautioned security officers and other government civil servants against misusing their offices and powers.

She condemned the Major Officer for illegally transporting his cows because of the rank he holds.
