Forty four youths from Kagadi district were officially recruited into the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on 7th July 2024, with a strong emphasis on discipline as crucial for success in their military careers.
The recruitment exercise took place at the Kagadi Community Hall in Kagadi Town Council, overseen by Colonel Amon Kagina, the head of UPDF Recruitment Team 5 for the Bunyoro subregion.
Addressing the recruits after their interviews, Colonel Kagina stressed the importance of discipline for success during the training course and throughout their UPDF careers.
In an interview with KKCR FM, Captain Geoffrey Sunday, the Public Relations Officer for UPDF Recruitment Team 5, revealed that out of the 74 candidates shortlisted from Kagadi district, only 44 passed the interviews. These recruits were dispatched directly to Kaweweta Military Training School in Nakaseke district.
Captain Sunday expressed disappointment at not reaching the target of 73 recruits due to some candidates failing medical tests and presenting forged academic documents.
Benjamin Tumusiime, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kagadi, congratulated the successful recruits on their golden opportunity to join the country’s defence force. He urged them to put in extra effort to pass the military training course and emphasised the importance of maintaining good health.
The UPDF Recruitment Team will continue its recruitment drive in Kibaale district tomorrow, Tuesday, and in Kakumiro district on Wednesday.
