The offence of murder in Uganda is punishable by the maximum penalty of death, as provided under section 189 of the Penal Code Act.
A tragic incident occurred last night in Rwenjobe village, Pachwa sub-county, Kagadi district, when a 22-year-old man, Peter Matovu, was killed and set ablaze during a fight over a woman. His brother, Fred Kaahwa, 32, was severely injured and is currently admitted at Bajungu Medical Services in Mabaale town council.
According to LC1 Chairperson Benon Bangirana, the two brothers had been staying in Nasuti village, Pachwa sub-county, Kagadi district, in search of women. On the fateful night, they attempted to prevent Matovu Peter’s wife from going out when unidentified individuals attacked them.
The Pachwa sub-county LC3 Chairperson, George Asiga, condemned the incident and urged the youth to focus on productive activities. Fred Kaahwa, who is admitted at Bajungu Medical Services, has revealed that they encountered the attackers at around 11:00 p.m.
The father of the deceased, Nyakoojo Balthazar, appealed to the police to expedite investigations and bring the suspects to justice. At press time, the police had retrieved the body and taken it to Kagadi Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
One suspect, Brian Karugaba, a resident of Kyabasara village, has been arrested and detained at Kagadi Central Police Station.
