LC3 chairpersons from town councils and sub-counties in Kagadi district presented a joint memorandum to Fred Byamukama, the State Minister of Works and Transport, seeking support to address pressing challenges hindering socio-economic transformation in the district.
The memorandum, presented by Canon Mwesigwa Peter Mutebire, the LC3 chairperson for Rugashali town council, outlined key demands, including access to road funds for new town councils and sub-counties to rehabilitate roads.
Additional requests included road maintenance equipment, such as a low-bed wheel loader, to facilitate road works, and trucks for rubbish collection to improve hygiene and sanitation.
Further support was sought for culvert installation and tarmacking of streets in Kagadi, Muhorro, Mabaale, Pachwa, Kyenzige town councils, and other areas.
The District Chairperson, Ndibwami B. Yosia, and the Kagadi District Woman Member of Parliament, Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, supported the LC3 chairpersons’ requests, emphasising the district’s challenges due to insufficient road equipment.
Minister Byamukama responded positively, pledging to collaborate with district leaders to improve service delivery. He stated that Kagadi district would soon receive a second road equipment unit and culverts to repair roads.
He also mentioned that the Muhoro-Ndaiga road would be included in the budget for the next financial year, along with the construction of three bridges in the district.
However, he emphasised the need for LC3 chairpersons to unite against corruption to make the most of government resources.
