The Uganda National Oil Company — UNOC — is set to launch a major tree-planting campaign across Northern Uganda, beginning this Friday with the planting of over 5,000 indigenous trees.
The initiative kicks off at Ker Kwaro Acholi Palace in Gulu, where 500 trees will be planted as a symbolic start to the region-wide effort.
Peter Kenneth Bintu, UNOC’s Head of National Content, made the announcement during a Suppliers Development Workshop in Gulu on Thursday, saying the campaign supports Uganda’s climate change goals and promotes environmental sustainability.
Martin Okumu, Deputy Prime Minister of Ker Kwaro Acholi, welcomed the move and called for collaboration among government, the private sector, and cultural leaders to restore Uganda’s natural heritage.
The campaign will expand to other chiefdoms, engaging communities and institutions in a collective push toward reforestation and climate action.
