Scholars appealed to the community, government, and non-governmental organisations to protect their rights and safeguard them from those who threaten their future.
Speaking at the gathering held at Nakabugu Muslim Primary School in Luuka District during the Day of the African Child celebrations, which was funded by various non-governmental organisations and led by Plan International Uganda and Korea International Agency, the event focused on the theme of planning and budgeting for the Day of the African Child.
The children, led by one Bitaminsi, who acted as chief guest in a show of responsibility among the youth, expressed concern over the increasing tendency of parents neglecting their duties towards them.
Those who participated in the debate said they face harassment and are denied access to social services such as education, healthcare facilities, and sanitary pads during their periods.
The event was attended by district officials from Luuka.
