The months of November and December are the only period when children have free time to work with their parents and guardians. Therefore, they should use this time to plant trees and take care of them, including watering and nurturing them regularly.
While addressing the community of Kasongoile in Nkondo Sub county, Buyende District, Mr Sharif Managariene, the youthful NRM flag bearer and candidate for the Buyende District leadership, urged the community to give children and students enough time and encouragement to plant more trees to combat environmental changes.
He said he also plans to distribute indigenous tree species to those on holiday for planting during this period. He suggested that when children plant trees themselves, they develop a sense of ownership and are more likely to care for them. Sharif added that if each child is given a minimum of five to ten trees to plant at home, it could significantly contribute to addressing global warming in the future. In addition, it keeps them engaged and responsible for their own projects.
On the other hand, Honourable Namulondo Sara Hassan, the NRM aspirant for Buyende District, highlighted how important forests used to be but noted that it is now increasingly difficult to find good ones. She encouraged the community to allow children to plant trees in their respective areas and to follow up on their growth.
It should be noted that a dry spell has been affecting the Busoga sub-region over the past month. In fact, rainfall has been irregular since October.
Namulondo also urged the planning department to explore possible solutions, warning that the community is at risk of famine due to low crop yields.

Busoga consists of eleven districts, but the most affected areas are in Busoga North, including Kamuli, Buyende, Kaliro, and Luuka.
