In the heart of Uganda, a remarkable young woman is making waves of change. Born and raised in Kamuli, Rebecca Alitwala Mubezi, a passionate advocate and founder of Becky’s Child Foundation, embodies resilience, compassion, and determination. Mentored and inspired by Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, she has carved her own path, championing girl-child education and women’s empowerment.

Through Becky’s Child Foundation, Rebecca has provided critical support to more than 500 vulnerable children, offering access to education, healthcare, and mentorship. Her work has empowered young girls and women, equipping them with the skills and confidence to break cycles of poverty. Her efforts also extend to combating kidney disease, raising awareness, promoting preventive measures, and driving broader community development initiatives.

Rebecca’s determination has inspired a generation, and her courage has touched countless lives, earning her recognition and admiration. As she continues to break barriers, her story ignites hope, proving that one person can spark profound change. Her vision for a brighter future is contagious, and her impact will be felt for years to come.

Kamuli District Health Officer in charge of Maternal and Child Health, Moses Lyagoba, describes Mubezi as “a health gem offering an olive branch amidst the disease burden.”

“She has advocated for access, availability, and affordability of healthcare services. Her contributions to reducing the disease burden through preventive measures and health camps have significantly improved health uptake,” the health officer noted.

The Kamuli Media Association has recognised her as the Youth Lioness for protecting, mentoring, and impacting the lives of vulnerable young people and communities. Through engagement, information-sharing, bonding, and promoting parenting values via outreach programmes, Rebecca has made a lasting difference.

“Through her Becky’s Child Foundation, Rebecca has reached the most forgotten segments of society — the vulnerable and children — giving them a voice, an ear, a helping hand, and a smile of hope. As society’s watchdogs and the fourth estate, we duly recognise these efforts as major contributions to the wellbeing and shaping of future leaders. We will award her The Lioness Crown on Women’s Day in recognition of her tireless work to protect and promote the rights of children, youth, and vulnerable communities,” said Sam Caleb Opio, a 2017 National Independence Gold Medal Award winner for promoting children’s voices.
