Speaking in an interview, Mr Kanaku Michael, the outgoing Local Council Five Chairman for Buyende District, said they engaged with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, emphasising key issues such as climate impacts and environmental concerns. He noted that all possible measures have been put in place to mitigate these challenges.

He explained that the nuclear energy project will cover sixteen zones across two subcounties in Budiope West, Buyende District. The community affected by the project has already been assessed according to valuation reports, and residents have been advised to relocate to areas at a safe distance from the nuclear site.

According to the chairman, it is true that both people and land will be affected. However, he urged the community to embrace intensive tree planting in their respective areas, explaining that the nuclear project emits strong waves and requires more trees to help mitigate its impact.
