A section of elders and locals of Erute South in Lira District want President Museveni to consider creating a new district for proper service delivery. This stemmed from a meeting of locals held on Tuesday and attended by different people from all the subcounties of Erute South. Joel Okao Otema, the secretary for the meeting, said they are requesting for Erute District because Lira City has separated some parts of the area from the district headquarters, access to services has become hard, and they have land for constructing the headquarters in Amac Town Council. He also said Amac Town Council is suitable for Erute headquarters because it has Amac HC4, Amac Complex Secondary School which is the only A level government school in the district, and Amac Market which is among the biggest markets in Lango, among others. Denis Opyene, the retired clan chief for Ocukuru Amola, said the rate of crimes in the area is high because they do not have a police station in the area.
