Over 200 pupils at Aluga Primary School in Olilim Subcounty, Otuke District, are studying under trees after strong winds blew off the school roofs.
Mike Ocen, the school headteacher, said that two classroom blocks and some offices have been damaged. He added that the roofs of nine out of 13 classrooms have been blown off, and teaching materials such as computers, books, and chalks have been destroyed.
Ocen explained that most learners are studying under trees and, when it rains, are forced to abandon lessons. He also noted that some pupils have stopped attending school because of the situation.
He urged the district leadership and well-wishers to assist in repairing the roofs to improve learning conditions.
Responding to the concern, Isaac Opio Opeo, the Assistant RDC of Otuke, said he visited the school to verify the situation and explore solutions. He promised to liaise with the Chief Administrative Officer of Otuke District to request support from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Francis Abola, the LC5 Chairperson of Otuke, said the district currently has no budget to repair the school roofs. He added that he will document the situation and forward it to the Office of the Prime Minister for support.
