Police in Lira City West Division are investigating the death of a 50-year-old Kenyan man who was found dead in his room.

According to Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, the deceased, Sam Jenga, was a produce dealer and a resident of Camp Swahili Cell in Tebia Ward, Lira City East Division.

Okema said the case was reported by 37-year-old Wamari Issa at the Lira City West Division headquarters in Ojwina.

He said it is alleged that on 25 November 2025, at around 9am, police received information about the man’s sudden death, and a team of officers led by the DPC and the OC Station, Lira City West, immediately visited the scene.

According to Okema, the body was seen through the window lying on the bed, facing upwards towards the roof, with both legs slanting onto the floor. He added that a black backpack and some clothes were on the bed, while some drugs were found on the table. The door was locked from the inside, prompting police to break in to gain access to the room.

He said photographs were taken and other documentation completed, adding that items including the bag, clothes, mobile phone and drugs were recovered.

Okema noted that the exhibits retrieved from the scene were taken to the police station, and the body was transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
