Akwiaworo Primary School in Lira City East Division is currently operating without a headteacher after the officer recently transferred to the school failed to report for duty.

The situation was first noted on 10 February 2026, when Lawrence Angoi, the councillor for Akwiaworo Ward, visited the school at the start of the first term.

He expressed concern that the absence of school leadership has disrupted normal operations, with teachers reportedly hesitant to resume full lessons. He added that the deputy headteacher who was also posted to the school has not yet reported, despite pupils attending classes regularly.

Angoi warned that if the headteacher does not report by Monday next week, he will mobilise parents to trace the former headteacher, Bosco Olila, to ensure that learning continues uninterrupted.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association at Akwiaworo Primary School, Tonny Olot, said the school is also facing a staffing gap after two teachers were transferred during a recent reshuffle and have not yet been replaced, leaving the school with only seven teachers.

Olot praised the former headteacher for his tireless efforts to improve academic performance but expressed concern that the gains made could be lost if the matter is not addressed urgently.

He therefore called on the Lira City Education Department to treat the issue as an emergency and intervene immediately.

When contacted, the City Education Officer, Canon Jane Obeny, confirmed that the newly posted headteacher had not yet reported for duty. However, she assured parents and stakeholders that the headteacher is expected to report to the school on Monday, 23 February 2026, and urged parents to continue supporting their children’s education.
