The Rotary Club of Lira Metropolitan has donated more than 1,000 tree seedlings to Lango College as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation in the Lango sub-region.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the school, the club president, Ben Boniface Oulanya, said a total of 1,160 eucalyptus seedlings were donated to support tree planting initiatives.
He noted that the trees will provide shade, act as windbreaks, and serve as poles for future electricity connections.Oulanya added that the initiative is part of a broader plan by the association to distribute seedlings to over 100 schools across Lango, with the aim of mobilizing communities to actively participate in the fight against climate change.

The Director of Studies at Lango College, Judith Akullo, welcomed the donation, saying it will strengthen the school’s environmental conservation efforts. She highlighted that the school already has a tree nursery and an active environmental club that will oversee the planting and maintenance of the seedlings.
Meanwhile, the school head prefect, Rapheal Ongom, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for the support and pledged that students will take responsibility for protecting and nurturing the trees.
The donation underscores the growing role of schools and community organizations in tackling climate change, with Lango College now set to benefit from improved greenery and a strengthened culture of environmental stewardship.
