The Bishop of Lira Diocese, Sanctus Lino Wanok, has urged Christians across Uganda to embrace the true meaning of Easter through reflection, repentance, and love for one another.

Delivering his Easter message, Bishop Wanok explained that the Holy Week journey reflects the profound love of Jesus Christ, beginning with His self-giving in the Eucharist and culminating in His sacrifice on the cross.

He noted that Good Friday represents Christ’s ultimate act of love, offering Himself fully to take away the sins and struggles of humanity.

The Bishop emphasised that through this sacrifice, believers are empowered to overcome sin and the challenges of life.

Looking ahead to Holy Saturday, Bishop Wanok described it as a day of silence, retreat, and personal reflection. He urged Christians, especially the baptized, to take time to examine their hearts and accept Christ’s sacrifice, which he said brings healing and renewal.

He also highlighted the symbolism of light during the Easter vigil, where believers move from darkness into light, representing hope in a world faced with challenges such as conflict, greed, and injustice. He encouraged Christians to remain as lights in their communities, even in difficult times.

Christians set off from Uganda Martyrs Cathedral for the Way of the Cross prayers.

As Uganda prepares for Easter Sunday, the Bishop reminded believers that Christ’s resurrection brings new life and the strength to overcome sin. He urged people to seek forgiveness, reconcile with others, respect property, and foster harmonious relationships.

Bishop Wanok also offered prayers for national unity, particularly during this period of leadership transitions. He called on all leaders and citizens to embrace Christ-like values of humility, service, and integrity in guiding the nation.
