The Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer for Amolatar, Ms. Irene Hope Nakiru, has lauded the efforts of the nominated candidates for Member of Parliament (MP) during the first day of nominations held today. A total of seven candidates stepped forward to contest in various constituencies, showcasing their commitment to serve and uplift their communities.
Among the nominees are:
Mr. Okodo Peter on NRM ticket, vying for the Kioga North constituency
Dr. Agnes Atim Apea on NRM ticket, representing WMP Amolatar
Mr. Carlos Opul on independent ticket, contesting for the Kioga County seat
Ms. Colins Angwech on UPC ticket also for the Kioga County seat
Mr. Okot Betek Moses on FDC ticket, competing for the Kioga County seat
Mr. Felix Adupa Ongwech on NRM ticket, another contender for Kioga County
Mr. Geoffrey Ocen on UPC ticket running for Kioga North constituency
In her remarks, Ms. Nakiru praised the candidates for their dedication and enthusiasm, emphasising the importance of democratic processes and the role of leadership in community development.
Following her nomination, Dr. Agnes Atim Apea emphasised her commitment to following up on the President’s pledge regarding the tarmacking of the Amolatar road.
She also highlighted her focus on ensuring that government funds meant for local projects are utilised efficiently to bring tangible benefits to the community.

Mr. Okodo Peter shared his vision for Kioga North, promising to work towards eradicating poverty while enhancing education, health services, and infrastructure for all residents. His commitment reflects a holistic approach to improving the quality of life in the region.

Ms. Colins Angwech declared her intention to leverage her previous experience as an MP to advocate for additional projects that will directly benefit the people of Kioga County, vowing to use her lobbying skills effectively.

Mr. Carlos Opul expressed his focus on boosting agricultural practices, expanding business opportunities, and enhancing trade networks for the constituents of Kioga County.

Felix Adupa made a bold statement regarding the lack of development in Kioga over the past five years, asserting that he possesses the vision and capability needed to drive transformative change in the area.
Meanwhile, Mr. Okot Moses Betek highlighted his goal of safeguarding mineral resources and land rights for the voters of Kioga County, aspiring also to rise as the next Speaker and President.
Geoffrey Ocen outlined his intention to push for legislative changes aimed at removing restrictions on the lake while proposing a bill to decrease MP salaries and increase compensation for teachers, signaling a focus on prioritising education.
The nomination process will continue tomorrow, October 23, 2025, with additional candidates expected to come forward, including independent and party-affiliated nominees such as Atala Winny Lillian, Auma Jennet, Akome Dorcus, Onyum Denis, and Olobo Dubai.
As the electoral process unfolds, the Amolatar community eagerly anticipates the initiatives and policies these candidates will champion to foster growth and development in their constituencies.
