19 January 2024, 7:57 am

In a decisive move to contain the rapid spread of Foot and Mouth Disease, authorities in Kyegegwa district have enforced a ban on the sale of livestock at the Rwensasi market, effective next week.

The weekly market, held every Thursday in Ruyonza Sub County, Kyegegwa district, witnessed its final trading day last evening (Thursday), marking the last opportunity for cattle transactions as mandated by local authorities.

During a crucial consultative meeting held yesterday at the Rwensasi farmer’s Cooperative buildings, Winnie Kyakuhaire, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kyegegwa, emphasized the necessity of the quarantine.

She pointed out that the decision stemmed from traders’ failure to comply with preventive measures, prompting the district to take stringent action.
