The Commission has urged all stakeholders to participate in these activities responsibly and follow the election guidelines to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections.

Campaigns for local government leaders across Uganda have officially kicked off today, November 10th, 2025, marking a major milestone in the buildup to the 2026 general elections.

This development follows an announcement by the independent Electoral Commission (EC), granting all aspirants at lower local government levels the go-ahead to begin their campaign activities.

The local government elections are scheduled to take place between January and February 2026.

The launch of local government campaigns comes as presidential and parliamentary candidates continue their own campaign activities, which began in late September this year.

In Kagadi District, political activity is already gaining momentum.

The incumbent Kagadi District Woman Member of Parliament, Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, expressed readiness to begin her campaign trail in Rutete subcounty.

She revealed plans to traverse all subcounties and town councils in the district as part of her re-election bid.

Mbabazi, who is contesting as an independent candidate under the saucepan symbol after losing the NRM Party flag to Margret Naziwa Rujumba, appealed to voters for cooperation and support to ensure victory in the forthcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the NRM Buyaga East parliamentary candidate, Stephen Twesige Rulekere, said NRM candidates will focus on explaining the 2026–2031 party manifesto to voters to help them make informed decisions.

He urged the electorate to vote for NRM candidates at all levels to sustain development and enhance service delivery.

The Kagadi District Lc5 Chairperson and NRM flag bearer, Ndibwami B. Yosia, pledged to prioritise infrastructure development once re-elected.

He also encouraged residents to vote for NRM candidates symbolised by the bus, including the National Party Chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for a unified and efficient leadership.
