One of the highlights of this tour was the different plantations, where the deputy speaker and religious leaders symbolically toured around the garden, signalling their support for diversified farming.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has urged religious leaders across Uganda to integrate the gospel with practical business skills and messages that promote hard work, in an effort to boost household wealth and fight poverty.

Tayebwa made the call yesterday while addressing clergy from the Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions during a study tour at Kamanyire 4-acre model farm in Kikwaya Town Council, Kakumiro District.

The tour stems from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s regional wealth creation campaigns launched in May 2019, which focus on skilling Ugandans in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, ICT and services.

The broader goal is to promote job creation, increase household income and accelerate industrialization as a key driver of economic growth.

During these tours, President Museveni has consistently promoted the four-acre model an integrated farming system that enables farmers to engage in coffee production, fruit growing, food crop cultivation, zero-grazing dairy cattle, poultry, piggery and fish farming.

Tayebwa said the President has repeatedly encouraged religious leaders to embrace development-focused preaching and to equip communities with practical, income-enhancing skills, a message he strongly supports.

He hailed the Kamanyire 4-acre model farm as a government-backed initiative aimed at transforming household livelihoods.

He added that the clergy’s visit was intended to help them learn firsthand from the farm’s proprietor the State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama so they can share the knowledge with their congregations.

Minister Fred Byamukama commended the Deputy Speaker for promoting a culture of learning among religious leaders and supporting efforts to uplift communities through improved household incomes.

He noted that he established the farm to provide practical skills to community members, a venture that has enabled him to meet both his personal and leadership development goals.

Byamukama encouraged the public to remain eager to learn and embrace hard work as a pathway to improved livelihoods.

The Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka the Bishop of Kinkiizi Diocese in Kanungu District, described the tour as deeply enriching and thanked the President for enabling the Deputy Speaker to participate in the learning engagement.

He pledged to mobilize fellow religious leaders to adopt and promote the 4-acre model in their communities.

Established in 2021, the Kamanyire 4-acre model farm features half an acre of pineapples, over 100 pigs, six milking cows, one acre of coffee and matoke, 25,000 poultry birds, and one acre of pasture.

The farm currently generates an estimated monthly income of UGX 72 million.
