Residents across Pader District are anxiously awaiting the results of the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections, which were successfully conducted today across various villages despite low voter turnout.

The NRM held this fresh round of primaries on Thursday, 24 July 2025, to select party flag bearers for district chairpersons (LCV), city and municipal mayors, district councillors, and city councillors ahead of the 2026 general elections.

This latest phase follows the party’s parliamentary primaries held on 17 July, which were marred by violence, chaos, and allegations of electoral malpractice, casting doubt over the credibility of the internal party processes.

In Pader District, three candidates are contesting the LCV chairperson flag: Retired Colonel Obwoya Fearless Oyat, Akena Alfred, and Oringa Largo. By 5:00 pm, all three had reported to the District Council Hall—designated as the tallying centre—awaiting the official declaration of results.

Preliminary results obtained by Luo FM show a competitive race, with Akena Alfred leading on 14,291 votes, Oringa Largo on 9,164, and Obwoya Fearless Oyat with 8,352.

Results from the sub-counties of Ogom, Lapul, and Pukor were yet to be unveiled by press time.

Meanwhile, in Pukor Sub-County, Obwoya George Oyat emerged victorious as the district council representative.

Speaking from the tally centre, which was under heavy security, all three candidates expressed calm anticipation for the final verdict, each hopeful of being named the party’s flag bearer.

Despite the peaceful voting process, voter turnout across all polling stations in the district was notably low, raising concerns about political engagement ahead of next year’s national elections.

As vote counting nears conclusion, the district remains on edge, with many eagerly awaiting the final declaration.
