The Electoral Commission (EC) in Pader District has received election materials ahead of the District Local Government Council elections taking place across the country.

The materials were first inspected by police at Pader Central Police Station (CPS) before being escorted to the EC offices along Obol Akal Road in Pader Town Council for offloading and safe custody. Distribution to the various sub counties will follow.

Speaking during the reception, the Assistant Returning Officer for Pader District, Karl Apiyo, said the exercise involves confirming that all materials have been offloaded and ensuring that all 268 ballot boxes are accounted for.

Apiyo explained that the next step is to segregate the materials according to sub counties so that every polling station receives a ballot box. She added that the EC office has sufficient storage space to safely keep the materials before their distribution tomorrow.

She further noted that some seals were damaged due to the long distance travelled and will be replaced in the presence of all stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability. All seals, she said, will be properly attached to the ballot boxes before dispatch.

Meanwhile, the Pader District LC V Chairperson, Rtd Col Fearless Obwoya Oyat, expressed concern over the late delivery of election materials to polling stations, noting that a similar challenge was experienced during the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections.

Obwoya said many voters arrived early at polling stations but left without voting due to delays, and called on authorities to address the issue to ensure a smooth voting process.

In response, Apiyo assured stakeholders that the materials will be dispatched to sub counties tomorrow and delivered to polling stations on voting day.

According to the Electoral Commission, LC V chairperson and councillor elections will be held nationwide on Thursday, 22 January 2026. In Pader District, five candidates are contesting for the LC V chairperson seat: Rtd Col Fearless Obwoya Oyat (Independent), Alfred Akena (NRM), Godfrey Oringa Largo (Independent), Bernard Onen Okeny (UPC), and Dickson Ojok (Democratic Front).
