Statement on murder of a juvenile in Buyende

The territorial police of Buyende are actively searching for Reverend Father Owori Silver Osuna 33, a Catholic priest of Wesunire Parish in Buyende district, Gabula Robert a driver and others to aid in investigating the suspected murder of a 14 year old Juvenile by assault.

The deceased has been identified as Joseph Kirya, a resident of Wesunire, Makanga Ward in Buyende Town council.

Initial findings indicate that the deceased allegedly stole stole Ugx 5,000,000/= ( Five million shillings ) from the room of Rev. Fr. Owori Silver Osuna in his absence.

On coming back, the Rev. Dr. could not find the money. On suspicion that Kirya had stolen the money, a serious man hunt started with the help of one Gabula and Waiswa. The suspect was got on Friday, the 1/8/2025 at around 05:00pm. Kirya was delivered to the Church, where he was allegedly assaulted and later locked in the parish store for the whole night.

Yesterday Saturday, the 02/8/2025 at around 09:00am, Rev Fr. Owori reported a case of theft of his money by Kirya Joseph. He also asked police to go and pick the suspect of which the police officer did.

Upon arrival, one of the staff directed the officer to the store where the reported suspect was , only to find the lifeless body of Kirya lying. Meanwhile, the Rev. Father had fled.

A team of detectives re-enforced the first responded to. They visited the crime scene. The body examined and handed over to relatives for decent burial.

Further enquiries are ongoing to establish more facts.

We condemn the acts of illegal detention and mob justice perpetrated on the juvenile.

We want to make it clear that while any individual can effect an arrest, the legal power to detain suspects after an arrest is limited to law enforcement, specifically the police.
