Rt hon kadaga being honoured at women’s day function in Bulopa kamuli
1st Deputy Prime minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has hailed the efforts by Holistic Initiative to Community Development- HOLD- Uganda in fighting domestic and gender-based violence in Busoga Region urging the Government to adopt its Real Fathers Parenting and Family Model
Speaking during the Kamuli District Women’s Day celebrations held at Bulopa SS, Kadaga said domestic violence deeply rooted in negative cultural gender roles norms negatively impacts and affects not only productivity but also parenting and family stability.
The REAL Fathers Project, implemented by HOLD Uganda with support from the Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC), Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and funding from the LEGO Foundation, has shown remarkable success. The project targets young fathers aged 16-25, mentoring them to become responsible, engaged, and loving partners and parents.

“The REAL Fathers Project aligns with our vision for a more equitable society, where community members especially the women and children are treated with dignity. Because of its significant impact in reducing Intimate Partner Violence and Violence against Children in the Busoga Region I recommend government to take on its Model,” Kadaga said
Kadaga said she has often observed only women attending school meetings where issues of their children are discussed and the men remain behind in the backseat coupled with the growing generation of irresponsible men colluding with organs to deny justice to the girl child as perpetuators of vices like child marriage, defilement and school drop outs.
“We should curiously look into the mismatch of emphasis is on girl child empowerment forgetting the boys yet this empowered girl will get married to the unempowered Boy who will control everything achieved so the Model of Real Father is in the right direction and must be supported,” Kadaga advocated
HOLD Uganda’s Executive Director, Mr. Charles Mudhumba said the Real fathers Project has trained 19,000 young fathers in Busoga Region in aspects of positive parenting, fatherhood, communication gender roles health and nutrition and attached to mentors who conducts one on one sessions
“As a result, men are becoming responsible, engaged, loving towards their families, more involved in childcare, communicating better with their partners, and reducing violent behavior. Some men have even started escorting their wives to hospitals and participating in their children’s education, contributing to a decline in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases,” Mudhumba pointed
