Apac mourns Lango Prince of Peace Rtd Col. Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo

Apac District Local Government joins the rest of Ugandans in grief following the sudden demise of Minister of State for Labour, Environment & Industrial Relations Rtd. Col. Hon. Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo.

The Apac District Chairperson LC 5 Asanti Ikomba Odongo speaking to Radio Apac this morning commended the late Charles Okello Engola dubbing him as a very enthusiastic Goal oriented and an engrossed man who would never accept any form of corruption in his line of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Mr. Odongo said the late Macodwogo labored so hard to diminish the frequent invasion by Balalo cattle keepers in areas of Ibuje and Akokoro in Apac district and also attacks by Karamojong cattle raiders in the entire sub region during his tenure as the State minister for Defense which makes him Lango’s pride and Prince of peace.

The late Charles Okello Macodwogo contested In 2006 as the Apac District Chairman LC5 and won with over 90% votes a time Oyam District hadn’t yet been curved from Apac and later resigned for Oyam where he was likewise able to triumph and serve as the District chairperson for two terms before joining Parliament in 2016.

The nickname Macodwogo came after he actively participated in hurtling the LRA insurgents from Lango which was presumed he reinstated the lost peace to the region where mothers could lit fire “Mac” that led to “Macodwogo” meaning Fire is restored.

Okello Engola was born on 12 October 1958 in present-day Oyam District. He attended his primary level of studies from Awangi primary School in Iceme Oyam District. He obtained his High School Diploma from Soroti Secondary School, in the city of Soroti, in the Eastern Region of Uganda.

His first degree, a Bachelor of Development Studies, was awarded by Kampala International University (KIU), in 2010. His second degree, a Master of Public Administration and Management was also obtained from KIU, in 2013.

While in the military, Okello Engola was the commander of UPDF 501 Brigade headquartered at Opit, in Gulu District. The brigade that played a very pivotal role in fighting the Lord’s Resistance Army. He was promoted to the rank of colonel and retired from the military in 2007.

He succumbed to injuries on 2nd May 2023 at around 09: 00am after being shot on sight by his personal bodyguard Pte Wilson Sabiti who later turned the gun against himself on a yet to be established motive.
