Apac District NRM party affiliates endorse Betty Engola the party’s sole candidate for MP in 2026

The pronouncement came out on 06/09/2023 during the Apac district NRM party’s consultative meeting held at Mayors Garden Apac municipality.

The function which was graced by the state minister for economic monitoring Hon Betrace Akello Akori as the as chief guest, in a motion calling for Mrs. Engola’s sole candidature moved by the district female PWD representative Sarah Aceng Elem, the party chairperson of the district Mr. Talib Okabo flanked by the sub county party chairpersons and other party leaders unanimously supported the motion before signing on the giant banner also bearing Museveni’s picture as a gesture.

Hon Awor Betty Engola who is the current woman member of parliament for Apac District commended the NRM supporters for granting her another chance as she pushes on with her second term as the district woman legislator in the 11th Parliament.

Cannon Richard Ogwang Odyero the senior presidential mobiliser in charge Lango sub-region who was also the chairperson organizing committee welcomed the development and promised to channel it to the NRM head office for approval.   

Other NRM affiliates however said the pronouncement is still too early for 2026 observing that the party’s constitution gives room for democratic election where internal primary determinations are observed. 

Responding to the endorsement, Minister Akello Akori welcomed the gesture saying Mrs. Engola has led the district well and she is still strong and capable of tapping more opportunities.

Mrs. Akori recognized the achievements of Hon Betty Engola dubbing her as a very hard to get leader since her line of work is unlimited as her hands of giving cuts across with no discrimination as of one’s political affiliation.

She however said the government through elected leaders are able to bring closer community-oriented projects in order to fight poverty sighting the recent PDM and likewise Emyooga among other initiatives that the government still tallies as projects with direct fight on poverty.

She said president Museveni wants to feel the impact of all government projects across the country implying that no leader should take the government program lightly.

Apac district NRM party’s consultative meeting was centered towards mobilization of the NRM party members right from grassroot level and also laying the achievements of the current woman member of parliament Betty Awor Engola and also for the NRM party as a whole.
