Ray of Hope for Nodding Disease Victims in Northern Uganda

The Luo Community in diaspora has pledged to support survivors of Nodding disease in Northern Uganda.

The development was revealed by Rev. Fr. Anthony Nyeko, the Executive Director of Arch Bishop John Baptist Odama Care center for victims of Nodding disease Kitgum in an exclusive interview with Radio Wa.

Fr Nyeko disclosed that during a Zoom meeting held on Sunday, the Luo community living in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom and other countries expressed willingness to offer support to victims of Nodding disease especially children in Acholi and Lango sub regions.

According to Fr Nyeko, the support when given will be used to offer rehabilitation programs to about 5000 victims of Nodding disease identified by the center sofar.

Fr, Nyeko is optimistic that, with the available funds and support from the people of good will, the center is set to offer counseling and other psycho-social support, Economic empowerment to families affected by nodding disease.

The center will also focus on offering vocational trainings to victims who are in their stable state of minds to enable them be relevant and productive in the communities.

He implored the public and the people of good will to support the center in a move to offer assistance to survivors of Nodding disease.

Apparently, Fr. Nyeko noted that the center is making outreach programs to create awareness among the people country wide and to make them know the adverse effects of the syndrome in the lives of people in Northern Uganda.

Rev. Fr. Nyeko says the Center will help the entire Northern Region

Arch Bishop John Baptist Odama Care Center for Survivors of Nodding disease will be officially launched on 2nd October 2022 and will cover 8 districts in Acholi and two districts of Lira and Oyam in Lango sub regions respectively.

A total budget of 2.1 billion shillings has been approved for the center to run effectively and to offer holistic support to the survivors of Nodding disease.
