Founder of British Hygiene Care -George Mawa To Recieve Honored Doctorate Degree

George Mawa, the founder of British Hygiene Care Limited in Lira City, Northern Uganda, will on Saturday this week be honored with a doctorate degree in community development for the significant roles he played in supporting and introducing projects that directly impact on the lives of the community.

The award is from the United States of America empowered by Los Angeles Church Development Institute (LADCI), Christian Bible Institute (CBIS), and Bircham International University USA, Spain Japan Bible Institute among others.

Other accrediting mother bodies are the International Accreditation Organization, Accrediting Commission for Biblical Higher Education, and Global Christian School Networks all in the United States of America.

Mawa will receive the doctorate award during the East Africa Leadway Leadership submit at PEFA Christ Church that started on 23rd and ending on 30th April 2023.

According to the accrediting body, Mawa’s doctorate is awarded because of his remarkable contributions to Northern Uganda and the country at large by inspiring the upcoming leaders, businessmen, politicians, and students to also work for the betterment of the community and serve God as well.

Addressing journalists on Zoom from Kisumu City in Kenya on Wednesday 26th April 2023, Mawa was excited about the upcoming award.

He thanked the institution for recognizing his contributions.

”…I have done a lot for my people and my country, I thanked God for the great opportunity,” he said

He challenges his fellow businessmen to always work towards changing the lives of the community they live in, regardless of what they get out of their efforts.

“…..if you work for the community, you not only add value to their lives but God in heaven will bless you,” said Mawa.

Who is George Mawa

A resident of Lira City, he contested twice for Lira City’s mayoral seat but did not make it.

Born and raised in a humble family in Northern Uganda, just like Children of that time who several went for a teaching course, Mawa became a teacher and served in Aloi Demonstration Primary School and Akia Primary School respectively before venturing into business.

Currently, George Mawa is a minister without portfolio in Palamyek Clan, one of the popular clans in Lango headed by, Chrispus Ayena Odongo, former lawyer of the former LRA Commander, Dominic Ongwen.

Earlier, this year (2023) Mawa was also appointed Prime Minister of the National Fellowship of Born-again and Pentecostal Churches in Lango.

In 2007, at the heights of the LRA insurgency in Northern Uganda, Mawa became the first person to set up an orphanage center called Obanga Tek, literally meaning God is Great using his own funds to support and pay school fees for orphans whose parents were killed by LRA or unable to afford school fees.

He later established a Vocational Training School – Church of God International Vocational School in Lira since he was a teacher and loved seeing children progress.

Mawa is also among the pioneers who established Music studios in Lira in northern Uganda to promote talents among young stars.

His GMO studio, motivated and encouraged young people of that time who later turned into music stars like the Late Mzee B, Mambo, Captain Ice, and late DJ Supa that helped shaped and built their music talents which later became their source of livelihood.

An environmental activist, after realizing the increased challenges in waste management in many towns in Northern Uganda, in 2002, Mawa opened British Hygiene Care Limited to offer consultancy services on environmental protection, sanitation, and waste management.

British Hygiene Care Uganda (BHCU) employs more than 20 people, and stands as a monopoly in Lira and the surrounding villages offering the following WASH products and services; Fumigation, modern toilet construction, insecticides, pesticides, waste management, cesspool emptying, garbage collection and management among others.

In 2017, the honored businessman went to South Sudan to promote Hygiene and sanitation and indeed he successfully delivered the work with the government of South Sudan in Torit State.

This is not the first time Mawa is being honored, while serving as a councilor for the people of Barogole parish and sectary for Works and Technical Services in the then Lira Municipal Council, Mwaw was awarded as the best-performing leader in Lira municipal council.
