Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo has received a donation of 40 specialised patient beds and 100 high-quality mattresses from the Gould Family Foundation, a US-based non-profit organisation dedicated to improving maternal and child health in sub-Saharan Africa.
The equipment, designated for the Maternity Ward and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), is expected to significantly improve care for expectant mothers and critically ill newborns once it is deployed.
Mr Ben Lakony, Director of the Dr Ambrosoli Foundation, who led the engagement with the Gould Family Foundation, explained that the donation was made in response to an appeal highlighting the hospital’s urgent needs. He noted that the equipment will help address the longstanding challenge of overcrowding and inadequate bedding in the targeted wards.
Hospital Administrator Dr Joseph Lokang acknowledged the importance of the donation, stating that preparations are underway to ensure the proper placement and use of the new equipment. He added that the hospital has seen growing demand for maternal and neonatal services, making this support both timely and crucial.
