The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Agago district, Akot Susan Moro, has cautioned implementers of the Parish Development Model (PDM) against disbursing funds to more than one member of the same household, describing the practice as unfair and contrary to the programme’s guidelines.
Speaking to Radio Wang Ooh FM, Akot emphasised that if a husband has already received PDM funds, the wife should not benefit from the same fund, and vice versa. She stressed that the PDM programme is designed to uplift as many households as possible from subsistence farming into the money economy, rather than enriching a few families multiple times.
The Deputy RDC also urged implementers to remain vigilant and avoid approving funds for spouses, even if they are registered in different SACCOs. She revealed that the district would begin reviewing beneficiary lists and investigating cases where families have received funds more than once. Necessary actions, she stated, will be taken against those found violating the rules.
Akot also encouraged women already running businesses to explore other government support programmes, such as the GROW Project (Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises). She explained that under GROW, women entrepreneurs can access up to Shs 200 million to expand their businesses, create jobs, and sustain livelihoods.
The Parish Development Model is a flagship government programme aimed at transitioning Uganda’s active poor from subsistence farming into commercial enterprise. Beneficiaries receive one million shillings to invest in income-generating activities, particularly in agriculture and small businesses.
