Rise in GBV Sparks concern in Agago

The Deputy resident District commissioner of agago Mrs. Akot susan moro have decried the high level of gender base violence (GBV) in the district.

According to her, in just a week, three have lost their lives as a result of GBV Cases, a vice she said is worrying in the district,

she was speaking during a stakeholders meeting held at northern Uganda widows and orphan support organization (NUWOSO) office Agago.

She said a single hand can’t combat this situation, and she requested the religious, cultural, political and all leaders to join hand in a fight against GBV in the District. She appreciated MEGO MAKWINY an initiative by NUWOSO for their hard work and requested them to do more since what they are doing is bringing alot of impacts in the community.

Susan Moro further asked NUWOSO to join hand together with District leaders and other stakeholders in sensitisation and community policy in the District since many people have problems in the community and there’s need for counselling.

In Northern Uganda, a significant number of women experience gender-based violence (GBV). Statistics show that in 2023, over 14,681 domestic violence cases and 14,846 sexual assault cases were reported, according to the Uganda Police Force. While both men and women experience GBV, women and girls constitute the majority of victims. 
Most of the cases stem from Domestic disputes involving land wrangles, LRA related cases, fight for properties among others.
