Uganda’s Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny Dollo, has announced that he will retire from judicial service in January 2026. The announcement was made on 10 July 2025 during a special talk show on Radio Wang Ooh FM, ahead of a thanksgiving ceremony held in his honour.
The thanksgiving ceremony, organised to recognise his contributions to the judiciary and the nation, will take place on 12 July 2025 at the Patongo Akwer Primary School playground in Patongo Town Council. The event is expected to attract thousands, including dignitaries from across Uganda. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be the Chief Guest at the celebration.
Speaking on Radio Wang Ooh, the Chief Justice expressed gratitude to the people of Agago, Acoli, and Northern Uganda for shaping his character and values. He emphasised that his accomplishments were deeply rooted in the support and upbringing he received from the Acoli community.
The Chief Justice, who hails from Agago District, noted that his upcoming retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter dedicated to community service and cultural development in the Acoli sub-region.
He also revealed plans to devote his post-retirement years to the Roco Pacu programme, a community transformation initiative he co-founded with Ambassador Olara Otunnu.
