As Agago District joined the rest of the world on 8th March in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD 2026), Radio Wang’ooh takes you down memory lane by highlighting a few outstanding women who have broken stereotypes, surpassed limits, and gone far beyond expectations.

3. Paska Adong – As the Senior Community Development Officer in charge of gender at Agago District Local Government, Paska has dedicated her career to advocating for the rights of women and girls. She actively engages in grassroots initiatives, lobbies for resources, and ensures that women benefit from government programmes such as UWEP, Youth Livelihood Projects, and the Parish Development Model (PDM). Known for her humility and approachability, she remains a trusted leader within the community.

4. Dr Angeyo Samantha Grace – As the officer in charge of Patongo Health Centre IV, Dr Angeyo has transformed healthcare in Agago. Despite her young age, she remains humble and approachable, demonstrating exceptional leadership in managing the facility and ensuring medical services reach those in need. Beyond her faith in God, she is the driving force behind the success of her team, whose dedication delivers tangible results for the community.

5. Hon. Beatrice Akello Akori – Hon. Akori serves as the Woman MP for Agago District and as the Minister of State for Economic Monitoring in the Office of the President, Uganda. A former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Apac District, she played a key role in leading the district’s COVID-19 response in 2020. Her commitment to development has earned her widespread support. She is also well known for her deep faith and devotion to God.

6. Akot Susan Moro – As the Deputy RDC of Agago, she is often the face seen by the local populace when duty calls. Approachable and down-to-earth, she effectively monitors all government programmes, drawing on her humble background as a former classroom teacher. Many regard her as a composed, motherly role model with exceptional leadership skills. For Afande Susan, it is not about glamour but about getting the job done.

7. Florence Adong – As Programme Manager for Basic Needs UK in Uganda (BNUU), Florence Adong has been at the forefront of mental health advocacy in Northern Uganda. With over a decade of experience in NGOs, she has led initiatives that have improved the lives of more than 6,500 community members, including 3,856 people living with mental health conditions. Her work has helped reduce stigma and raise awareness of mental health issues in Agago.

8. Lilly Akulu – Educator & Mentor – Having served as the headteacher of Moodege Primary School, Lilly Akulu has dedicated years to shaping young minds in Agago. She has led several schools, including Adilang Kulaka, Luzira, Acuru, Ongalo, Orina, and Biwang. Beyond teaching, she has mentored and supported many children, particularly young girls, inspiring them to pursue education and leadership.

9. Akidi Sidonia – A local fish and clothing vendor since 2003, Akidi Sidonia defied the odds after her husband left her with four children. Through hard work, she managed to educate three of her children and built rental properties, securing financial stability while continuing her business. Her resilience is truly celebrated.

10. Akello Nighty – As Chairperson of the Mego Makwiny Community Restorative Group, which is predominantly made up of women, alongside youths, widows, widowers, and married couples, Nighty has a clear goal: to empower local families, particularly women, to address rights violations while strengthening household food security. She has made tackling issues affecting women, men, and children through various interventions—including community dialogues and personal counselling sessions—both accessible and effective.
