A delegation of 30 cultural leaders and staff from the Acholi Cultural Institution, Ker Kwaro Acholi, has completed a three day familiarisation visit hosted by the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) to gain first-hand insight into the country’s ongoing petroleum developments.

The visit exposed the delegation to key oil and gas infrastructure projects in the Albertine region, including Pump Station 1 under the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the Kabalega Industrial Park, Kabalega International Airport, and the Kingfisher Development Area.

Speaking after the tour, the spokesperson of Ker Kwaro Acholi, Okello-Okuna, said the exposure had broadened the delegation’s understanding of the country’s petroleum sector and the scale of ongoing developments.

He noted that the visit provided the cultural leaders with an opportunity to observe how infrastructure and community programmes linked to the oil sector are implemented, lessons they hope could inform development planning in northern Uganda.

According to the Uganda National Oil Company, the three day engagement was part of its broader stakeholder outreach aimed at strengthening relations with communities and institutions across the country.

UNOC said engaging cultural leaders is a critical step in ensuring that development within the oil and gas sector remains inclusive and responsive to the needs of local communities.
