Police in the Aswa East region have launched a manhunt for two men suspected to have assaulted a mourner who later died from injuries sustained during the attack in Kitgum District.
The deceased has been identified as Orach Morish, 36, a resident of Pawidi village in Lagoro subcounty, Kitgum district.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of March 11, 2026, when Morish had travelled to Tegwiri West village to attend a funeral vigil but allegedly stayed until about 3:00 a.m.
Police say that shortly after, Morish was reportedly assaulted and severely injured by two men identified as Ochora Walter and another suspect known only as Onyango, who are said to be relatives of the deceased’s wife.
Efforts were made by community members to rush the injured man to Omiya-Anyima Health Centre III for medical attention, but he was pronounced dead on arrival by health workers at the facility.
The body of the deceased has since been conveyed to Kitgum General Hospital for a post-mortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
The Aswa East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, IP Oloya Joe, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who are currently at large, to establish what exactly transpired on the night of the incident, as the motive behind the assault remains unclear.
