Thousands of Christians in Agago District on Friday took part in the annual Way of the Cross procession to mark Good Friday, reflecting on the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The faithful, drawn from various parishes and Christian denominations, walked through major roads in trading centres and town councils, carrying crosses, singing hymns, and praying as they retraced the journey believed to have been taken by Jesus Christ to Calvary.
In Patongo Town Council, the procession began early in the morning at St Joseph Catholic Parish and moved through several stations of prayer before concluding at the parish grounds, where a Good Friday service was held.

Reverend Father Alfred Okumu of St Joseph Parish explained that the Way of the Cross is an important occasion for Christians to reflect on sacrifice, forgiveness, and the message of love taught by Jesus Christ. He noted that the large turnout demonstrated that many believers continue to value faith and spiritual reflection in their lives.
Some participants said the procession strengthens their faith and reminds them to live peaceful and responsible lives within their communities. Among them was Sarah Akello, a resident of Patongo Town Council, who said walking together in prayer helps unite Christians and encourages people to support one another during difficult times.
Local leaders also welcomed the peaceful conduct of the procession. Patongo Town Council Chairperson Joseph Kilama said the annual event not only strengthens faith but also promotes unity and discipline among residents. He encouraged the faithful to carry the message of peace and reconciliation beyond the church into their homes and communities.
The Way of the Cross is observed by Christians around the world on Good Friday as part of the Easter celebrations, commemorating the final hours of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.
